Privacy Policy
Last updated October 13, 2026
Stand-in (standinai.com, “Stand-in”, “we”) lets you post videos without showing your face, body or voice. Protecting your identity is the product, so this policy is written to be read.
What we collect
- Account: email address, name if you sign in with Google, password (stored hashed), and your plan.
- Recordings (biometric data): the video you record or upload, including your face and voice, plus working files made from it. We use them only to make your video. See “Your recordings” below.
- Your videos and characters: finished videos, and any Stand-in character you create (a fictional person generated from your description).
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We keep your plan, purchases and wallet balance.
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, the steps you take to make a video, timestamps, the website or campaign that referred you, device type, operating system, browser, language, and approximate location (country, region and city from your IP address). We use first-party cookies to recognize your browser and session.
Your recordings
By uploading or recording a video you give your written consent for us to process it, including your face geometry and voice, solely to create your video. Finished videos stay in your account until you delete them, which you can do at any time from the video’s page.
How we use information
- To make your videos, run your account and process payments.
- To email you about your account and videos (for example, when a video is ready or to reset your password).
- To understand how people use Stand-in, fix problems, prevent abuse and improve the product.
- To measure marketing and, unless you opt out, to share or sell usage data as described below.
Sharing and selling
Service providers process data for us under contract: Replicate (video and image generation, running models including Pruna’s video model), ElevenLabs (voice and transcription), Cloudflare (storage and email), Neon (database), Vercel (hosting and analytics), Stripe (payments), Inngest (background jobs), PostHog (product analytics), Resend (email) and Google (sign-in).
Partners: we may share or sell usage data (not recordings, faces or voices) with advertising, analytics and data partners. Under California and other US state laws this may count as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. You can opt out at any time on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, and we honor Global Privacy Control browser signals as an opt-out. In the EU, UK and Switzerland we only do this, and only run analytics, with your consent.
Legal: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect people, our users or Stand-in.
How long we keep it
- Recordings and working files (including face and voice data): only as long as needed to make your videos, and never longer than 3 years after your last use of Stand-in, or sooner where the law requires.
- Finished videos and characters: until you delete them or your account.
- Account, purchase and wallet records: while your account is open, and as long as required for tax and accounting.
- Usage data: up to 3 years.
Your rights
You can access, correct, download or delete your personal information, and opt out of its sale or sharing. Email support@standinai.com from your account email and we’ll respond within 30 days. We won’t treat you differently for using these rights. If you’re in the EU, UK or Switzerland, you can also withdraw consent at any time and complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Stand-in is only for people 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Security
Recordings and videos are stored privately and only reachable through short-lived signed links. Data is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we’ll notify you as required by law if a breach affects your information.
Changes and contact
We’ll update this page when our practices change and tell you about significant changes by email. Questions: support@standinai.com.
