Stand-in

For your AI

Use Stand-in from your own AI

Ask Claude, ChatGPT or a coding agent to make your Stand-in videos for you. It uses your own Stand-in account, with the same credits, prices and limits as the app. Nothing extra to pay.

Server address: https://standinai.com/api/mcp

1. Connect

Claude, ChatGPT and other chat apps

Add a custom connector and paste https://standinai.com/api/mcp. Sign in to Stand-in when asked and press Allow. No key needed.

  • claude.ai: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  • ChatGPT: Settings → Connectors (developer mode) → Create, then choose OAuth.

Coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, opencode and others)

Make a key in Account → Agents. Pick “Read only” or “Can make videos”, then copy it straight away: it’s shown once.

Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http standin https://standinai.com/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer si_live_…"

Codex (~/.codex/config.toml, with the key in the STANDIN_API_KEY environment variable):

[mcp_servers.standin]
url = "https://standinai.com/api/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "STANDIN_API_KEY"

opencode (opencode.json):

{
  "mcp": {
    "standin": {
      "type": "remote",
      "url": "https://standinai.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer si_live_…" }
    }
  }
}

Anything else that speaks MCP over HTTP: use the address above and send the header Authorization: Bearer si_live_….

2. What your AI can do

Your plan and balance get_account

Your plan and how you pay: `pays` is "credits" (use `credits`: balance, quality levels with their price per 15 seconds, add-ons in credits; ignore videosLeft, walletUsd and payAsYouGo) or "videos" (older accounts: plan videos and wallet dollars). Also how many new Stand-ins you can still make. Free.

Cost: Free

Your Stand-ins list_standins

The characters you can use: your own Stand-ins plus our cast, the person's default first (isDefault). Each has an id to pass to create_video. Free.

Cost: Free

Make a new Stand-in create_standin

Make your own fictional Stand-in from a short description (or guided answers). Counts as one of your new Stand-ins this month; if it fails, it isn't counted. Takes 10 to 40 seconds. Ask the person before calling it.

Cost: One of your new Stand-ins (not counted if it fails)

Get an upload link get_upload_url

Start one upload (up to 1 GB). Free. Returns the key for create_video and a one-hour handoff link the person opens on their phone or computer to pick the clip (show it, or its QR code). If you have the file yourself, pass contentType and sizeBytes to also get a PUT link.

Cost: Free

Make a video create_video

Swap the person in a clip for a Stand-in. The clip is an upload (sourceKey from get_upload_url) or a direct link to a public video file (sourceUrl, up to 400 MB); startS and endS use only that part of it. Costs credits for each started 15 seconds of the part you keep at the chosen quality level (tier), plus any add-ons your plan doesn't include; older accounts pay with plan videos or the wallet. Call with dryRun: true first to see the exact price, show it to the person and ask before calling it for real. If it doesn't work, you aren't charged.

Cost: Same as the app: credits, plus add-ons. Nothing if it fails.

Check a video get_video

Progress, result and a one-hour download link for a video. Free. Check every 15 to 30 seconds; a 24-second clip usually takes about 3 minutes.

Cost: Free

Voices list_voices

Voices for "change my voice" in create_video (voice: "change" with a voiceId). Free.

Cost: Free

3. A typical request

Say “Make a Stand-in video from clip.mp4 with my usual Stand-in”. The AI will:

  1. check your plan and Stand-ins (get_account, list_standins);
  2. get an upload link (get_upload_url): you open it on your phone or computer and pick the clip, or a coding agent uploads the file itself;
  3. ask for the price with create_video and dryRun, and show it to you;
  4. start the video once you say yes (create_video);
  5. check every 15 to 30 seconds until it’s ready (get_video), then give you the download link. Links last an hour; ask again for a fresh one.

We measure the clip’s length ourselves, so the price is always for the real length.

Two shortcuts: if the clip is a video file on the web, give your AI its link (sourceUrl, a direct link to an mp4 or mov up to 400 MB; not a TikTok, YouTube or Instagram page) and skip the upload. And to use only a part, say “from 6 seconds to 21 seconds” (startS and endS): the price and the video are for that part. Asking again for the same clip with another quality level, voice or captions makes a new video; the same settings twice within an hour are one video, charged once.

4. Prices and limits

Exactly the app’s prices. 1 credit is 1 cent, and each video uses credits for every started 15 seconds. A 30-second video is 399 credits on Lite ($3.99), 749 on Standard ($7.49), 971 on Pro ($9.71). A 30-second Pro video is 971 credits ($9.71). Clips can be up to 10 minutes.

  • Credit packs: $10 for 1,000 credits, $25 for 2,500 credits, $50 for 5,000 credits, $100 for 10,000 credits. Credit packs never expire.
  • Starter: $19.99 a month for 2,100 credits (about 4 videos of 15 seconds). Unused plan credits roll over to the next month.
  • Creator: $49.99 a month for 5,500 credits (about 11 videos of 15 seconds). Unused plan credits roll over to the next month.
  • Pro: $99.99 a month for 11,000 credits (about 22 videos of 15 seconds). Unused plan credits roll over to the next month.
  • Lite: 399 credits per 30 s.
  • Standard: 749 credits per 30 s.
  • Pro: 971 credits per 30 s.
  • Lite and Pro include Sharp HD on clips up to a minute. Standard is our default, and you can add it to a finished video.
  • Auto captions 50 credits (included on Creator and Pro) per started 30 seconds.
  • Voice swap 50 credits (included on Creator and Pro) per started 30 seconds.
  • Sharp HD on a finished video 111 credits per 15 s per started 30 seconds.
  • Green screen 100 credits per started 30 seconds.

If we can’t finish a video, its credits come back to you automatically. Limits, shared with the app: 30 new videos and 60 uploads an hour, and 600 calls an hour from agents.

5. Keeping your account safe

  • We only store a fingerprint of each key, never the key. If you lose one, revoke it and make a new one.
  • Anyone with your key can use your account within what you allowed, so keep it out of shared files and repositories.
  • Pick “Read only” unless the agent needs to make videos. Permissions you can give:
    • See your plan, videos left and wallet balance
    • See your Stand-ins
    • Make new Stand-ins (counts toward your monthly limit)
    • See your videos and download them
    • Upload clips and make videos (uses your credits)
  • Revoke a key or disconnect an app any time in Account → Agents. It stops working straight away.
  • Agents can’t change your plan, password or payment details.

Questions

How does the clip get from my phone to Stand-in?

Your AI gives you a one-hour upload link (in ChatGPT and Claude it shows as a card with a QR code). Open it on your phone, pick the clip, done. A coding agent that has the file can also send it to the link itself. The link accepts one clip and nothing else on your account. If the clip is a public video file on the web, your AI can take it from its web address instead.

Can I give it a link to a TikTok or YouTube video?

Not yet: those are web pages, not video files, and your AI will tell you so. Download the video and upload it, or give a direct link to the file.

What do I see in ChatGPT or Claude?

Small cards next to the chat: your balance, the upload link, the price with a confirm button, the progress, and the finished video with a download button.

Do I need to tell it how long my clip is?

No. We read the length from the file. Your AI only passes a length if we can’t read it, and the price then says so.

Can I use it without a plan?

Yes, with a credit pack: buy credits in the app and your AI uses them at the same prices.

Why did a connected app stop working?

Connections end when you sign out of Stand-in in that browser, disconnect the app, or after 30 days without use. Connect it again.

Where are my videos?

In your account, same as videos made in the app. You can delete them there.
