Camera shy
Camera shy? Make videos where someone else is on screen, but it is still you
A lot of people have things to say and never post because it means their face, their body, their voice, in public, forever. Stand-in removes the part that stops you. Film in private. The posted video shows a fictional person doing exactly what you did. Nobody sees you. You still get to be the creator.
How it works
- 1. Film alone, in private
Record in Stand-in with the script scrolling like a teleprompter, or in your camera app. Nobody watches you film.
- 2. Pick who appears
A ready-made Stand-in, or one you made. Keep one so your account feels like one person.
- 3. Post
Keep your voice or swap it. Cut pauses and ums. Tap the AI-generated label and post.
What you need
- • A phone
- • A quiet 2 minutes
- • One person in frame, face visible
What it costs
from $3.99 per 30-second video with a $10 credit pack (from $3.63 on Pro); from $2.00 up to 15 seconds. No free video; credit packs from $10. Up to 10 minutes on any account; each started 15 seconds uses credits. Credit packs never expire, plan credits roll over, and a failed video gives its credits back. Ready-made Stand-ins are free on every video; HD is included.
Questions
- Can anyone tell it is me?
- Not from your face or body: the Stand-in is a different person. Only your timing, gestures and energy carry over. If your voice is recognisable, swap it in one tap.
- Do I still have to look at the camera?
- Look where you would normally look. The Stand-in follows your head and eyes. Steady, well-lit clips give the best result.
- Can I fix a bad take?
- Film again, or cut pauses and ums in Stand-in. Failed videos are not charged.
- Is this cheating?
- It is editing, like a filter or a voiceover, with a person in place of a person. TikTok, Instagram and YouTube each have an AI-generated label you turn on when you post. Stand-in never helps hide that a video is AI.
